Journey Through the Mystical World of Black Myth: Wukong

My Wild Journey Through Black Myth: Wukong's Spooky Bug-Infested Chapter 4

Black Myth: Wukong Chapter 4 and Webbed Ridge deliver a spine-chilling, bug-infested adventure packed with secrets and epic boss fights.

Alright, fellow Destined Ones, buckle up because I just crawled, fought, and occasionally screamed my way through Chapter 4 of Black Myth: Wukong, and let me tell you, it's a whole different kind of creepy. We've traded snowfields for the Webbed Ridge, a place so full of insect Yaoguai that I'm still checking my shoulders for spiders. It's called 'Rosy Cheeks, Gray Hair,' which I think is a joke about how pale you get from fear. While more straightforward than the sprawling earlier chapters, this place has a massive, confusing underground maze called the Webbed Hollow that will test your sense of direction and your tolerance for things with too many legs. Oh, and there are secrets galore, including the brutal hidden boss, Yellow Loong. Let me walk you through my bug-squashing adventure.

The Creepy Village of Lanxi and the Descent

My journey with the ever-chatty Zhu Bajie began in the Village of Lanxi. We literally busted out of a box. Classy. Heading into the village unlocked the 'Estate of Zhu' Keeper's Shrine, which was my first clue this place was owned by someone with questionable interior decorating taste—namely, spiders. Immediately, I was greeted by Grasshopper Guais, Puppet Spiders, and Beetle Captains. Cool designs, but if you're an arachnophobe, maybe just close your eyes and button mash.

The main event in the estate was fighting the Second Sister, who morphed into a giant spider. Not a hard fight, honestly. A few heavy attacks and spells to stagger her, with Zhu Bajie providing colorful commentary from the sidelines (apparently, he has history with this spider family). After turning her into a greasy stain, I grabbed a Celestial Jade Lotus Pill from the courtyard and followed my pig pal... right down a hole into the Webbed Hollow. Great.

This place is huge. It's like Chapters 2 and 3 had a baby, and that baby was made entirely of spider silk and regret. I activated the 'Upper Hollow' Shrine and started climbing. The path led to an area littered with pulsating spider eggs. One immediately hatched a Grasshopper Guai. Rude.

My first goal was an optional Shrine for later secret access. From the egg sacs, I followed torches to a wooden platform, jumped down, and took a right.

After a crossroads and a room with creepy Clawed Cocoons, I found The Carvings Meditation Spot and the 'Pool of Shattered Jade' Shrine. To its right was a cave leading to my first encounter with the Venom Daoist, a multi-armed jerk trapped in an 'Odd Cocoon.'

my-wild-journey-through-black-myth-wukong-s-spooky-bug-infested-chapter-4-image-2

He's fast and loves to flip and stab. A well-timed Rock Solid or Cloud Step sneak attack works wonders. Smash four of the arms on his back for the Venomous Armguard (critical hits inflict Poison!). He ran away after a beating—typical. I teleported back to Upper Hollow.

Back at the egg area, I ignored the wooden platform this time, kept right, and found a Lantern Holder. After disposing of him, I jumped off the cliff behind him, platform-hopped following torches, and reached the 'Verdue Bridge' Shrine.

my-wild-journey-through-black-myth-wukong-s-spooky-bug-infested-chapter-4-image-3

Crossing the bridge led to a cutscene with spider sisters and some chanting faces. Looting a courtyard gave sweet gear, then it was time for the Elder Amourworm. A big, squishy maggot. Not too tough. Beating it yielded the Proto-Amourworm item. Feed it 3 Rice Coocoons (found in spider eggs) back at Zodiac Village for the Elder Amourworm Spirit. Neat!

Moving left past a statue, I fought a tough Scorpion Prince, grabbed a Luojia Fragrant Vine, saw a cutscene with the mysterious Fourth Sister, and collected my first Purple Talisman (there are four—collect them all!). This led to the 'Middle Hollow' Shrine and The Tree Meditation Spot.

Centipedes, Old Friends, and a Buddha's Hand

Near 'Middle Hollow,' a bridge overlooks a pit of spider eggs. Dropping in and breaking a neat row of eggs leads to the 'Bonevault' Shrine. Left of that is a bone yard, home to the Centipede Guai.

Smash its back legs and dodge its rolling ball attack. Easy peasy. After the fight, an exit flanked by torches led to... Ma Tianba! The horse Guai from previous chapters, now cocooned. Freeing him and exhausting his dialogue is crucial to unlocking his Transformation later. A bittersweet reunion.

From Ma Tianba, I headed left to an area with more eggs and worms. A suspiciously neat row of eggs hid a path up a hill to another Purple Talisman and the 'Cliff of Oblivion' Shrine.

East of the shrine, a tight corridor housed Buddha's Right Hand, a bug chief with, you guessed it, a giant hand.

Cast Immobilize after its wall-smack attack. Watch for poison in phase two. Its corpse becomes a bridge. After crossing, a fork appeared: right to progression, left to a secret.

The Epic Hidden Boss: Yellow Loong

For the brave (or foolish), the left fork at the corpse bridge leads to the 'Relief of the Fallen Loong' area. It involves a rope bridge and a very narrow platform with swinging Corpse Cocoons.

Use Cloud Step here. Seriously. After crossing, a green area and a shrine await. If you have the Loong Scales and fought the other secret loongs, Yellow Loong broods nearby.

my-wild-journey-through-black-myth-wukong-s-spooky-bug-infested-chapter-4-image-7

This guy is TOUGH. Lightning, long combos—the works. Keep distance, use charged heavy attacks to bait lunges, dodge, repeat. Phase two makes him more agile; time your heavies during his lunges. His Golden Lining Transformation is a top-tier reward for parry masters. After beating him, explore to find a Scorpion Prince and a cave with three paths. The middle path holds another Purple Talisman.

Frogs, Betrayal, and a Spider Matriarch

Back to the main path (the right fork at the corpse bridge). Following torches and a hidden passage leads to a web-filled room swarming with enemies. Push through to the 'Lower Hollow' Shrine. Nearby, a crack in a wall leads to The Cave Depths Meditation Spot.

A left turn from the shrine walkway leads to a flooded cave and Baw-Li-Guhh-Baw (aka Buddha's Left Hand—a frog with a hand for a tongue, because why not?).

my-wild-journey-through-black-myth-wukong-s-spooky-bug-infested-chapter-4-image-8

Dodge his poison bile. After victory, exit opposite, drop down, kill a Beetle Guardian, and follow torches to the 'Hut of Immortality' Shrine.

Then, the moment I dreaded: fighting Zhu Bajie. First round is easy. Loot the hut, and a back area opens for round two in a muddy arena.

my-wild-journey-through-black-myth-wukong-s-spooky-bug-infested-chapter-4-image-9

He transforms into a boar, then a catfish. Save mana for Immobilize or A Flock of Many. It's a heartbreaking fight, but story demands it. Winning leads to the next shrine.

The path winds upward. Enemies appear, but the maze is over. Don't miss the Skandha of Choice in a pond's northern edge! At the top is the 'Gathering Cave' Shrine and a cutscene between Zhu Bajie and the Violet Spider, the matriarch.

She's tough—webs and poison. After her defeat, a spider army chases you out (run!), saved by the Fourth Sister. Welcome to the Temple of Yellow Flowers.

Temple of Yellow Flowers - Part One

Sunlight! Grab a Luojia Fragrant Vine and rest at the 'Mountain Trail' Shrine. Ascend the steps, meeting new foes: Sword Daoists, Fly-Whisk Daoists, Snake Herbalists, and the tricky Snake Sheriffs. Grab the Bee Mountain Stone Soak along the way.

At the 'Forest of Ferocity' Shrine, a right-hand path behind it leads to The Height Meditation Spot. Progressing upward, I found Commander Beetle training Daoists.

my-wild-journey-through-black-myth-wukong-s-spooky-bug-infested-chapter-4-image-11

Kill the minions fast, focus on the Commander with A Flock of Many. Nab his Spirit, climb the stairs to the 'Temple Entrance' Shrine.

Past the gate, the temple complex unfolds. Right path: more enemies and the sage Yuan Shoucheng (he gets around), plus The Pines Meditation Spot. Left path: a dead end, with the 'Court of Illumination' Shrine to its left.

Opposite the shrine, a path leads to a clearing with pullable plants. One is the Fungiwoman, an optional boss who hits surprisingly hard. Beat her, then loot a nearby building for the Sunset of the Nine Skies drink (replenishes Qi on Gourd use).

Venom Daoist: The Rematch and a Portal

Retrace steps to a steep slope leading to a small cave. Time for round two with Venom Daoist.

my-wild-journey-through-black-myth-wukong-s-spooky-bug-infested-chapter-4-image-12

Starts like the first fight, but after losing his arms, he gets faster and has a nasty charge attack. Spells and Thrust heavy attacks still work. Defeating him for good lets you interact with a painting, creating a portal to the hidden area: Purple Cloud Mountain. Let's take a detour!

Purple Cloud Mountain: An Autumnal Diversion

A colorful, linear forest path. A snake NPC in a tree laments her husband. Cross a bridge to the 'Valley of Blooms' Shrine, then onward to the 'Bounds of Deity's Abode' Shrine. A nearby hill has The Ledge Meditation Spot.

From the shrine, steps lead to Scorpionlord lazing on a roof. He warns you off. You can listen (he'll help you later) or be a warrior and break his alcohol pots to fight him.

my-wild-journey-through-black-myth-wukong-s-spooky-bug-infested-chapter-4-image-13

Fighting him is OPTIONAL BUT BRUTAL. Many tries. Tail strikes, complex patterns. Cloud Step helps, as do three-Focus-Point heavy attacks. Beating him yields the Stained Jade Gourd (faster drinking). If you skip the fight, he helps against the area's final boss.

Return to the shrine and go the opposite direction to 'Petalfall Hamlet.' Here, Daoist Mi asks for a Violet Hail (dropped by local Daoists). Give it to him, and the traitor attacks!

After beating his first form, he transforms into an Amourworm-like creature. Win, and the snake NPC—Hong Yi—appears, condemns him, and gives you the Violet Hail Transformation.

my-wild-journey-through-black-myth-wukong-s-spooky-bug-infested-chapter-4-image-14

Past Daoist Mi, find a well with a large rock, go right and down to the 'Cloudnest Peak' Shrine.

Up the steps is the final boss of this area: Duskveil.

my-wild-journey-through-black-myth-wukong-s-spooky-bug-infested-chapter-4-image-15

Two phases. If you spared Scorpionlord, he tag-teams for phase one (making it easy), but he dies instantly when phase two starts (the screen turns red). Save Spells for phase two. Attack legs, dodge red aerial projectiles. Victory grants the Weaver's Needle Vessel from Hong Yi—creates a tracking needle for chip damage.

Done with Purple Cloud Mountain! Back to the temple.

Temple of Yellow Flowers - The Finale

Return to the 'Court of Illumination' Shrine. Head north up steps for the final Purple Talisman. If you collected all four, prepare for Supreme Inspector—a secret, scripted 'boss' previewing Chapter 6. Get the Celestial Nonary Pill after.

Back at the shrine, go east down steps for the final boss: Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master.

my-wild-journey-through-black-myth-wukong-s-spooky-bug-infested-chapter-4-image-16

The fight starts with the remaining spider sisters helping (briefly). He uses Lightning and Poison. After enough damage, he turns the screen yellow, swallows his sword, and halves your max Stamina. Use the Weaver's Needle the moment the screen turns yellow to destroy sky orbs, stagger him, and simplify the fight. He's tough, but Yellow Loong and Scorpionlord were bigger headaches for me.

And... done! Chapter 4 conquered. The tragic spider saga and Zhu Bajie's heartbreak are behind me. What a wild, bug-filled, occasionally heartbreaking ride. Now, to brush the imaginary webs off my armor and see what Chapter 5 has in store.
